Air India has rolled out a baggage tracking feature on its mobile app and website.
The Gurugram, India-based carrier stated its new baggage tracking feature was designed by its own digital technology and design teams, in collaboration with its airport operations department. Air India passengers will be able to track their check-in baggage during their trip on the website or mobile app, which uses real-time baggage tracking information from its its network airports and a scalable cloud applications infrastructure.
Passengers will be able to track their baggage including segments on other interline or code-share connections on the same booking.
To track check-in bags, passengers can scan the barcode on their baggage receipts. The information will also be available on the “My Trips” section on the Air India mobile app after check-in if the trip is added by the passenger. Additionally, the airline's website will also have the feature under the “Book & Manage” section under the “Track Your Bags” tag.
“In our sustained efforts to enhance guest experience by embracing innovative digital technology, we can now provide real-time baggage status to our guests,” said Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Air India. “This key-customer centric initiative marks a significant milestone in our transformation journey. Our mobile app serves as the ideal platform for our guests to use this feature as it provides specific information related to baggage as part of ‘My Trips’ segment. Guests can also add baggage tags easily by scanning with the mobile phone’s camera,”
Air India is one of a few global airlines that offer baggage tracking on their website and mobile app. Airlines that offer the feature includes United, American, Delta, Southwest Airlines, and Qatar Airways.
